Many religions and religious group’s main concern is the behaviour, appearance and rituals of followers, but when one’s attention shifts from personal responsibility and intentions or motivations to judging how others keep within the rules, the purpose of religion is lost. Religion’s prime objective is to help followers “bind back” to themselves – a process of personal and spiritual transformation where there are greater self-awareness, acceptance and knowledge and not just intellectual understanding and rote learning.
There is a void between intellectual understanding and experience and between acquired knowledge and wisdom. The conduit between the two is meditation, which allows you to go beyond intellectualisation and “experience” directly for yourself – then you “know”. This is the path to wisdom.
